Does God Use Social Media?

Does God use social media? Many of us go on social media sites, like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, thinking we have a veil of anonymity. We act as though our social media lives can be separated from out real lives. Therefore, we post things that we would not show or say in our daily lives. Does God care how we use our social media sites?

"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God."  -1Corinthians10:31

If you are a Christian, you can’t expect God will be OK with you acting in an unchristian-like manner. This verse tells us that our main goal in life should be glorifying God. Everything we do should reflect the Lord. We need to remember He is with us at all times, so we should walk through all aspects of life with a Christian attitude.

"I tell you, on the day of judgement people will render an account for every careless word they speak." -Mattew12:36

Matthew is talking to believers when he reminds us that we must stand before the Lord to justify our earthly actions. We must remember that even if our parents or other authority figures don’t see what we post, God does. Knowing that we are held accountable to God should motivate all of us to stay away from lifestyles that He would not approve of.

" And do not present the parts of your bodies to sin as weapons for wickedness, but present yourselves to God as raised from the dead to life and the parts of your bodies to God as weapons for righteousness." -Romans6:13

This is telling is that we should present ourselves and our actions as instruments of righteousness. What we put on the Internet or message to friends is a part of you. It is what you are telling people you think or believe. Everything on the Internet stays there forever, even if you delete it. Social media cannot be classified as good or bad. It is how we use it that makes it good or bad. Are you using social media as a tool to glorify God or using it as an instrument of sin?

Look back at your last five tweets, posts or messages. Do they reveal God in some way? Would you be comfortable standing before God to explain them? If you answered “no” to either questions, will you be changing the way you act on social media sites? I hope you choose to reflect the Lord in all aspects of your life in the future, and choose to use social media as a tool for righteousness. God uses social media through you. How will you use it?
